On the east side of Gamla Stan island, right on the water front, is Gamla Stan's Bryggeri, "Old Town Brewery." We visited here often as we wandered about town, they served great food and great beer, and it was a perfect place to watch people and boats. |
|
Gamla Stan's Brewery made just one type of beer, Färsköl or "fresh beer." One day I asked our waiter, who had studied business in the states, if they sold these glasses so I could add one to my collection. I was speaking in Swedish and he was patiently listening as I explained about my beer glass collection. He said back to me, in Swedish, that they did not sell their glasses, but who would know if one disappeared into my camera bag. Then he asked if I would like a clean new one to steal. How about that for friendly? |

This is the view looking out into the harbor from the Old Town Brewery. The ferry docks are off in the distance - this is where we left for Finland. The white boat to the right belongs to the Danish Royal family, who were visiting for the Swedish King and Queen's 25th anniversary. |

The royal Danish yacht was so white and had so much gilt on it that it was almost painful to look at! |

View of the Stockholm harbor. Skeppsholm (Ship's Island) is to the left, mainland Stockholm is straight ahead, and Djurgården to the right. We spent a lot of time on Djurgården, visiting the Vasa museum, Skansen outdoor museum, and several others. |
|
Boats of all types could be seen in every direction; it seemed as if half the population had a boat. |

Susan enjoying a plate of cheese, bread, and fresh shrimp. Everything was great, but we were a little uncertain about the shrimp at first, they still had their heads and legs attached, and many carried egg sacks. We watched to see what the natives did, and followed suit by peeling off everything except the shrimp tails, and then eating them. |
