Sweden's royal palace is on the Gamla Stan island, site of the original settlement of Stockholm. The palace was completed in the 1700's on the site of an earlier original. While not as ornate or imposing as some palaces, it is a large building that dominates one corner of the island. While we were in Stockholm, the king and queen were celebrating their 25th anniversary; when Jerry was in school at Uppsala 25 years ago, they were just getting married.

One of the gilt crowns near the entrance to the palace.

Entryway to the palace with guard.

Detail over the door to the palace with the 'three crowns" found on the Swedish coat of arms and many other places.

Decorative cannons guarding the square at the rear of the palace.

Time for changing of the guard. Notice that despite their fancy outfits, they are carrying automatic weapons with bayonets fixed and clips in place! We have no idea of the clips were full, however, and we didn't want to ask.

Statue at the edge of the garden on the east side of the palace.
