Work Information

Professor of Biology, Casper College.

I received my doctoral degree from Idaho State University studying biology education. My research was in zooplankton of high mountain lakes. I do not have a particular emphasis rather a broad background in biology. Prior to Idaho, I worked at Utah State University’s Center for Environmental Toxicology. I received both my Bachelors and Masters from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches Texas. My masters work was in biology where I studied aquatic ecology and water chemistry. My masters research examined the effects of riparian zones on water quality. My undergraduate degree was in Environmental Sciences through the School of Forestry.

Key responsibilities

Currently, I supervise Casper College's Greenhouse and coordinate all its activities. This includes arranging for tours and special events. Every year we hold open houses and invite the public up to see our facility. Also, it is an asset for the life science programs and is visited by numerous students.

I also am in the process of establishing a herbarium here at the College. My goal is to have a representative specimen of as many of the Wyoming flora as possible. Currently, our holdings are meager but growing.

Department

I enjoy teaching many of the "field" courses that our department offers. Between Idaho State University and Casper College, I have taught Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, Microbiology Lab, Comparative Anatomy, Biology Seminar, Ecology, Field Ecology, Life Science, Life Science Seminar, Vegetation Ecology, Vascular Plant Taxonomy, and that is all I can think of right now. My passions are the field courses.

Current Projects

Tammy and I are both members of the Intermountain Environmental Education Training Team, a group of educators who train other educators. Currently, we are facilitators working with the Game and Fish Department to offer EE training in Project Wild, and Wild Aquatic. Along with this, we both train educators in Project WET. Additionally, each semester, we present a combined workshop in Project WET, Project WILD, and Project Learning Tree. Each of these curricula are broad scope programs to introduce individuals to their environment. Drop us a line if you're interested in workshop information. We will be holding workshops throughout the semester.

I serve with the Wyoming Environmental Education Associations drive to establish a statewide program for Environmental Education/Resource Education. Our goal is to develop sets of resources that educators throughout Wyoming can use.
