Question: Why would I want to do this?

    Answers:
  1. To find out what a student's email address is
  2. To find out if a student has a network (Novell) login account created
  3. To create a distribution list (Group) for your class or multiple recipients
All student accounts *should* be created but we're finding that some slip through the process so we have to create those after the fact. If a student cannot login, they probably do not have an account and should call the Help Desk for resolution.

To find out if a CC or UW student login account has been created use the following procedure to look the student up in a GroupWise address book. If they cannot be found, their account has not been created.

For UW/CC students without a login account, have them request a local login account through the UW/CC office.

Steps 1-9 of this procedure demonstrate how to create a Directory called "CC Students" in your Novell LDAP Address Book. This only needs to be done initially. Once this is created, all that needs to be done to access the Directory of CC Students in the future is to open the Novell LDAP Address Book and begin searching as shown after step 9.

  1. Open the GroupWise Address Book by selecting Tools | Address Book
  2. Select "Novell LDAP Address Book".
    Note: If it is not listed, select File | Open Book, and then click "Novell LDAP Address Book"
  3. Click "Directories", then "Add"
  4. Enter "CC Students" in the "Account Name" field and click Next

  5. Enter "ac2.caspercollege.edu" in the "Server Address" field and click Finish.

  6. Select the "CC Students" directory that you just created and click "Set as Default", then click "Properties"

  7. Select the "Searching" tab and enter the following in the "Search Base" field: "ou=students,o=academic" then click "Apply".

  8. Select "Search Fields", click the box next to "First Name" (givenname) and "Last Name" (sn), then click "OK" and "OK" again.

  9. Click "Close" to return to the GroupWise Address Book.

You can now search for CC student e-mail addresses using the Novell LDAP Address Book by, entering first and/or last name, and clicking "Retrieve."

Note: Be sure that "CC Students" is selected in the drop down box labled "Look in".

Final Note: Student names listed without email addresses are either UW, UND or some other affiliation that we do not store email addresses for. In some cases these students will have email through Casper College so you may see their names listed twice, one with an email address and one without.
