GroupWise MailSaver for Windows

MailSaver is a tool that lets GroupWise users take messages that have been filed in folders within GroupWise, and save them in bulk to simple text files on disk. It can handle a complete folder all at once, including attachments. The tool is a GroupWise client plugin, and once it's installed, you right-click on a folder in your Cabinet, and select MailSaver to either save the messages, or save both the messages and attachments, to the location of your choice.
  1. Download and install GWMailSaver.exe
  2. If your GroupWise Client is already open, close it and re-open it, otherwise open it.
  3. (First Time) Click "Tools" > "Configure MailSaver" and configure the Collection Location
  4. Right-click the folder you want to save, select "Mailsaver" and select one of the following...
  5. Select "Save All to Collection" for messages and their attachments
    or
  6. "Save Messages to Collection" for message alone
This will process through the messages contained in the folder and save them as text files.

NOTE: The default saving directory can be set by going to | Tools | Configure MailSaver.

New Features:

-There is now easier association between attachments and the messages they belong to.
Message names now contain a four-digit hex "unique ID" code, and any attachments that
MailSaver saves also have that code in their names. This allows users to find all
attachments from a given message, including embedded attachments in attached messages,
by searching for the code in Windows Explorer, or their desktop search tool of choice.

-MailSaver now works in proxy accounts.

-Improved support for caching mode. Saved message status is updated to online mailbox
automatically after MailSaver runs when in caching mode.

-Internationalization: MailSaver now works properly in the following GroupWise client
language localizations: US, FR, DE, SU, ES, DK, NL, NO, SV. MailSaver also works in
other languages of GroupWise, but the settings may not be accessible. Thanks to
numerous user all over the world for requesting this and helping with translation.

-GroupWise 7 full support: MailSaver now correctly modifies the menus in the GroupWise
7 client.

-New "Project Folder" feature: MailSaver supports the notion of a "Project Folder" for
each folder in the Cabinet. If a Cabinet folder is saved to a "Project Folder", then
that "Project Folder" is thereafter associated with the Cabinet folder. The next time
you save the same Cabinet folder, the contents automatically go into the same "Project
Folder". Each Cabinet folder can have a unique "Project Folder".

-New Remember Saved Messages feature: MailSaver marks messages as "previously saved"
with MailSaver. It will not re-save messages that have already been saved, thereby
reducing duplication in your mail archives. If you want to re-save messages with
MailSaver, you can mark them as "Unsaved".

-You can save messages to your "Collection" (a heirarchy of folders with a single root
directory) or to your "Project Folders" (on-disk folders separately configured for each
cabinet folder in GroupWise). "Previously Saved" status is remembered separately for
"Collections" and "Project Folders".

-MailSaver now works with saved query folders (saved query folders do not support
MailSaver's previously saved status feature).

-The Diagnostics Window log information can now be saved to a file.

"MailSaver 3" Release Notes 2004 June 28

With kind permission of my employer, Associated Engineering, I am pleased to release this
GroupWise Client Plug-in as an open source tool free for all interested parties.

Please not that messages saved with MailSaver should be carefully checked to ensure that
all the messages you need to keep are saved before deleting them from within GroupWise.

What Is MailSaver?

MailSaver is a plug-in (c3po) for the Windows GroupWise client. It lets GroupWise users
to do bulk-saves of messages from GroupWise to text-files on disk, along with any
attachments. The messages are saved with customisable names. It extends the pop-up
menu on folders in the GroupWise client to allow this to occur. It also adds a dialog
box for configuration to the Tools menu in the GroupWise client.

What's it for?

Our company does a lot of work based on separate projects. Many staff members work on
many shared projects, and much of the e-mail transacted on a day-to-day basis is related
to one project or another. While working on projects, users file the messages related
to a given project in it's own folder in thier GroupWise cabinets. When the project is
completed, the user can use MailSaver to write out the entire folder to a shared project
directory on a server, and then all the messages get archived with the rest of the
project documentation. It provides a fast, easy, open format for saving e-mail messages.

Features

MailSaver saves messages to plain text files with only the pertinent information included.
-Sender, recipients, subject, date, body, and attached messages.
-Optionally, saves attachments in native format.
-Will not delete messages in GroupWise, or affect the message store in any way, other than
setting the "message read" status on any unread messages it saves.
-Will not over-write existing attachment files. Adds a -1, -2, -3, etc. to any attachment
when a pre-existing file of the same name exists on disk.
-Can be used to save messages in the same folder structure as you have within GroupWise.

It works best with plain text messages but it does handle HTML messages also. Attachments
are optionally saved with the messages.

Have fun.
